No, no, and no. The quality of food at Aku Tiki may be ok by local hotel-based restaurant standards--they can pull off a decent fish n chips, fine. But there is a major issue for me with a tiki-themed restaurant that doesn't offer any tiki-themed food at all. The menu is purely standard motel food for Middle America--chicken Caesar salads, burgers, shrimp cocktail, a grilled mahi-mahi--that you could find at Best Westerns or Holiday Inns across the nation. So much missed opportunity here: they have a tiki-themed hotel that's beside the beach and make much ado with their use of moai on their menu but alas, they don't bother to carry it forth in their food--it's apparently name only, all hat and no cattle for them. The actual dining room could also stand some renovation but they could leave it as-is and make it work in a funky, retro, kind of way: Don the Beach-comber and Trader Vic were the dudes who put tiki on the American scene, creating bars and restaurants with Polynesian themes, potent drinks, and food inspired by the foods of Asia and the Pacific which American servicemen discovered while stationed over there during World War II. Sure, Trader Vic invented a lot of his recipes only using actual authentic Polynesian food as an inspirational template, but he invented things like crab rangoons. There is so much potential here to have something other than the same hotel food you'd get at the Ramada of Bedford Heights, Ohio. Either change the name, or change the menu. The kitchen seems to have the talent to produce quality food--I wasn't as blown away as other reviewers by it, but once you get past the fact they're not what one would expect from the name, they prove adept at burgers and such at least. I expect a renovation of the menu could well be done with no change in facilities or staff: everyone here does seem to want to present a good experience and service is prompt and attentive. As was said in old Hawai'i, hawawa ka heenalu, hai ka papa.

Having stayed at the Best Western Aku Tiki before we wanted to eat at their restaurant, Traders. Well....the food was superb. The chowder, ribs, chicken and service were great. This place may surprise you, but we have eaten here years ago, and it was excellent. Give it a shot, you should enjoy the dining experience.

We stayed and had dinner the first night and it was excellent. I had fish n chips and they gave me 4 pieces of white fresh fish and chips (not fries) which the waiter told me upfront. My family also ordered loaded fries that cane with cheese, bacon and fresh onion pieces. Wow. My wife had vegetarian quesedias n my daughter chicken quesedias. My older one had chix n stix from appetizers. Everything was tasty and the waiter was friendly. All in all everything that we ordered was great. I highly recommend it.

The food we had is good unfortunately due to kitchen issues they had a limited menu. Full menu was back up on Sunday. If you get the chance try the Buffalo Shrimp and load fries they are very good. We ordered the Trader Cheeseburger medium well my husband and I were sharing it with fries for lunch. They cut the sandwich and divided the fries when serving to us which was great but the bad part was the burger was burnt. If you are staying at the hotel you can charge your meals to your room once they confirm a card on file which is nice not to have to carry cash while at the pool.

We had the beer cheese soup, Black & Bleu burger, home made chips, loaded fries, prime rib French dip, fish & chips on the first night and it was all so good, we returned for lunch the next day! Sadly, the beer soup was Saturday's soup so we couldn't ALL have it again but it's really yummy and worth trying. Although we didn't stay at the hotel, the bar does have a "Social hour" with free wine, beer, & liquor from 5:30-6:30pm which was a potential concern since we had a party of 9, but they gave us advance notice when I called and we hurried over to get our table before the rush (a huge thank you to whomever answer the phone). The only (minor) things I can think of that kept me from awarding the 5th star was that the parking was limited and we had to park across a busy street and that they didn't offer any sort of Happy hour specials for non-hotel guests (a bit of a tease that others were getting free drinks). LOL Lastly, the Fish & chips could be offered on a smaller scale for a more reasonable price. Otherwise, good values were had all around. The VERY friendly and efficient staff we encountered on both visits and better food than we anticipated make this a true gem in Daytona beach... Another Yelp Success story!!

We are staying at Perry's next door and were so pleasantly surprised to find this little hideaway next door. The menu choices were pretty diverse and it definitely beats being stuck in the room ordering pizza. The value was there and I came back for dinner with my son the next night. The service was tops. The waiter and bartender were both friendly, observant, and made us feel welcome.

We were staying next door at Tropical Manor and decided to give this place a try for their breakfast buffet. For 10$, you really can't go wrong. The buffet is your typical fare of boxed cereal, fruits, danishes, scrambled eggs, hash browns, pancakes, french toast, bacon. We had a little of everything as we were with kids and you never know what they will eat. My husband and I both thought the hash browns were great. And I also loved the french toast. Nothing fancy, but a good price for a decent meal.
